International Folklore Festival in Alberobello 2026 — Monte Farella

International Folklore Festival in Alberobello 2026 — What to Expect & Where to Stay in a Real Trullo

By Monte Farella  ·  Category: Events in Puglia 2026

Every spring, the ancient streets of Alberobello do something extraordinary. The UNESCO-listed trulli town of Puglia — already one of the most photographed places in Italy — fills with the sounds of folk music, traditional drums, and voices singing in a dozen languages. The International Folklore Festival "La Primavera in Apulia" returns from 24 to 27 April 2026, bringing folk ensembles, choirs, majorettes, and music bands from across Europe and the world to perform between Puglia's iconic stone cones.

And 25 minutes from the festival stage, in Putignano, Monte Farella offers the only couples-only luxury trullo in the Valle d'Itria with a private heated spa pool inside the cone — the most extraordinary base you will find anywhere near Alberobello.

The Festival: What It Is and What to Expect

"La Primavera in Apulia" is organised by Blue Diamond Events in partnership with the European Association of Folklore Festivals (EAFF). The 2026 edition runs 24 to 27 April across Alberobello and Matera, with additional programme stops in Gravina in Puglia, Ostuni, and Altamura.

The festival is built on cultural exchange. Groups travel from across Europe — and beyond — to present their national folk traditions through costume, choreography, and music in the open piazzas and cobblestone streets of Alberobello. The contrast of vibrant traditional dress against ancient trulli stone creates a visual atmosphere unlike any folklore festival in the world.

The four-day programme closes with an awarding ceremony celebrating all participating groups. It is one of the most warmly international evenings in the Puglia events calendar.

Alberobello: The Festival Has Its Roots Here

Alberobello's relationship with international folk culture goes far deeper than a single spring event. The town is home to the "Città dei Trulli" Folk Company, founded in 1928 — one of the oldest continuously active folklore organisations in Italy — which also hosts its own International Folklore Festival every August. When you attend La Primavera in Apulia, you are stepping into nearly a century of living folk tradition.

Beyond the performances, Alberobello itself rewards slow exploration:

  • Rione Monti — 1,500+ trulli in one dense hillside district; best before 9am
  • Trullo Sovrano — the only two-storey trullo in existence, now a heritage museum
  • Sant'Antonio Church — the only trullo-style church in the world, built in 1927
  • Artisan ceramic shops, local wine bars, and family-run trattorias serving orecchiette

Where to Stay: Don't Just Visit the Trulli — Sleep in One

Alberobello has trullo hotels inside the historic centre. They are charming. They are also small, busy, and fully booked weeks before major festival weekends.

Monte Farella offers something different. Located in Putignano, just 25 minutes from Alberobello, it is a couples-only luxury trullo stay with a private heated indoor spa pool built directly beneath the cone. Chromotherapy lighting shifts through the heated water. The private Jacuzzi, walled olive garden, and outdoor dining terrace are entirely yours. The maximum occupancy is two guests — always.

After four days of colour, music, parades, and performances, returning to a private trullo spa retreat in Puglia is not a luxury — it is the only logical way to end it.
